Burt’s Cheese proudly received the prestigious ‘Best Producer’ award from Jay Rayner and The Great British Bake Off presenter Sue Perkins at last night’s show-stopping ceremony in London, even the trophies themselves were edible, created by Heston and the team at the Fat Duck ad were given to all 16 winners on the night.

The award was voted for by a leading panel of UK chefs, food writers and critics the ‘Best Producer’ award recognises the best producer of food and drink in the UK – those who are producing something uniquely excellent in British food. Previous winners have included farms, artisan butchers and bakers, and with the award to Burt’s Cheese in 2013 this now includes a cheese-maker!

Winning the Observer Food Monthly award for ‘Best Producer’ is beyond anything I could have imagined. Burt’s Cheese started out as a hobby, with a simple mission to make a good local blue cheese. The fact that it has now grown to be a national award winner is just amazing!

This is a really exciting time for Burt’s Cheese, the work force doubled recently … there are now of 2 of us! Tom Partridge, joined in a  full-time role and we’re are now looking to develop the business further. We are hoping now to both expand sales of Burt’s Blue and also develop another cheese ‘Drunken Burt’, its the Burt’s Cheese recipe washed in Cider. We’re still focusing on both the best quality local ingredients and the individual attention we give to our cheeses, which we hope is what makes the difference!
