Description

Drunken Burt, washed in Cider, is our Burt’s cheese with a difference. Instead of piercing the cheese during ripening, which encourages blue veins to develop, the cheese is washed in Cider, although the paste may occasionally develop some blue.

The ‘paste’ of cheese takes on some of the golden colour of the cider and also some of the flavour characteristics. Sometimes you almost pick up the a smoky note from the oak barrels. You can expect the ‘younger’ cheese to have a slightly ‘chalky’ centre, which then softens as it continues to mature.

Tasting Notes: The ‘paste’ of cheese takes on some of the flavour characteristics of the cider, sometimes you pick up a smoky note from the oak Cider barrels. You can expect the ‘younger’ cheese to have a slightly ‘chalky’ centre, and more acidity, which both soften as the cheese continues to mature.

The Drunken Burt is also available in a bake box, simply score the top of the Drunken Burt and bake for approximately 20 min at around 180°C, or until the cheese has softened throughout.

The cheese is made as a 750g (approx.) wheel, or as an 180g ‘mini’ truckle in our selection box.
